The Rotary Club of Lakewood Ranch will be running an amazing opportunity this weekend that really captures the kind of spirit that SUGAR is all about! This walk will not only allow kids to do something that will make a difference in the world, but they will also get to “walk in someone else’s shoes” and see what another child’s life is like having to carry water that they will use and drink every day:
“Walk for Water is a fun, family-friendly event to raise awareness and funds by providing a small sense of the water journey experienced by millions of impoverished people every day. Each participant will carry a bucket approximately 1/4 mile to a water source, fill it with water, then carry it back to the starting point, symbolizing the treacherous journey made by families to obtain bacteria filled water for drinking, cooking, washing and bathing.
The Rotary Club of Lakewood Ranch has funded and built clean water drinking systems in remote villages around the world and is committed to continuing its efforts until every person on the planet has access to clean water.”
Arrive at 8:30AM to hear a brief discussion about the goals of this walk, enjoy some food and listen to some music before the walk begins.
