It’s a Crafting Kind of Day

This Friday will be our next SUGAR run and planned event. We are planning on creating craft kits for the kids who stay at HOPE Family Services shelter to have something to do while there. This kit can also end up doubling as replacing a little lovey that they may have had to leave behind in the rush to leave their unsafe home environment.

Each child that comes will make two kits. They can choose to donate both kits or make one of the kits to keep. We will be reading a book entitled, Tiny Mama by Matthew Swanson and Robbi Behr. They’ll then get to make their very own tiny mama! This craft event will take place:

Summerfield Park

November 10th at 1:30PM

Please RSVP by prepaying $2.00 to help us purchase the supplies needed.

Our 100 Lunches Project is Completed!

We had over 40 volunteers come out to help us make 100 lunches for the Salvation Army. Kids helped by making the sandwiches, putting them in sandwich bags, filling lunch bags with fruit cups, spoons, pretzels, a sweet treat and a little note. During the Club Night on Main Street, we had kids decorate lunch bags. We brought those 46 bags to our event this past Sunday. The additional lunch bags got decorated Sunday by our little artists! They all had so much fun doing this project. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm!

First Completely SUGAR Organized Event is Happening This Weekend

All of the events we have completed in October were ones where we were the participants, not necessarily the organizer. For example, SCLO had a garden that needed planting, so we provided the volunteers,. Special Olympics had an event where extra hands were needed, and we stepped in. This weekend we will complete our first SUGAR organized and run event. The 100 Lunches Project is one that we have organized completely, and we are looking forward to seeing it through to fruition. For those of you joining us Sunday, we can’t wait to see you! If you won’t be there, we will have plenty more in the future that will be similar to this one.

The Garden is Growing!

Stefanie and Ali took a visit to Second Chance this week and were able to sneak a peek at the garden we planted at the beginning of October. It is growing beautifully! April, the director at Second Chance, is hoping to see a few items ready for harvest by Thanksgiving.

Thanks so much for saying hello.

We were out at BooFest last week and wanted to thank everyone for stopping in to say hello at our SUGAR booth. We especially appreciated the children’s participation in our craft to thank the first responders for their work. The hearts they made were so thoughtful.

BooFest – please stop by and say hello!

Please stop by and say hello!

Friday is BooFest on Lakewood Ranch Main Street. We will be there providing the kids with a meaningful craft – creating thank you notes for our local first responders. Please stop by and say hello! Keep an eye out for our littlest volunteers who will have lemonade and maybe even cookies to help us raise funds to do the things we do. We have several SUGAR planned events that need a little funding to get going.

SUGAR was all over town this weekend. We finished two additional partnered training sessions with Nate’s, served lunch to some awesome Special Olympics athletes and finished the weekend helping Mothers Helping Mothers work through sorting some of their donations.

Thanks so much for The Observer for giving us a little shout-out of our own.  Yes, this is our first month of projects and we promise you that we aren’t stopping any time soon! We’ve had some exciting meetings recently with HOPE Family Services and an amazing volunteer at Honor Animal Rescue that are helping us round out our November and December calendars. We can’t wait for you to see what is in store!

We had a great garage sale weekend!

Last weekend, we hit the garage sales hard. SUGAR had two lemonade stands to support our 100 Lunches ProjectTheir work resulted in us raising over $170!! While the kids were busy selling lemonade, cookies and brownies, the SUGAR gals were collecting massive amounts of donations. We ended up with three carloads of goods that were sorted and then distributed to four deserving organizations.

This weekend is a busy one.

Our weekend is chock-full of activities. We hope you can join us at some of them. We would really love to have you all swing by our booth at Club Day on Lakewood Ranch’s Main Street Friday night. The kids will get a chance todecorate the bags for our 100 Lunches Project! If you would like to donate peanut butter, jelly, fruit cups, apple sauce or pretzels, we will have a bucket there for collecting those items. We also have drop off zones Monday through Friday (9AM-2PM) at CoWork and all week (11AM-11PM) at Ed’s Tavern.  P.S. Publix has some good deals on peanut butter and fruit cups this week!

SUGAR Shout-Out

These kids did an awesome job Saturday raising funds for SUGAR’s 100 Lunches Project! All of their sign shaking, singing the “lemonade, crunchy ice” chant, dancing and showing their pretty smiles made a big difference. They raised over $170.00! We hope all of them will be able to join us on November 5th when we pack the bags and make the sandwiches!

Don’t Get Discouraged!

Most of our events with space limitations are full, but we have several dates where “the bigger, the better” mentality reigns. Two are this weekend! We hope to see you and your kids at Club Day decorating a bag, and we would also love to have you as part of our cheer section at the Special Olympics Bowlingevent Saturday. Let’s cheer on those athletes! Your kiddos can even practice their restaurant skills and serve some lunches while there!

Keep and eye out for us this weekend!

This week is the Lakewood Ranch Community Garage Sale. We will be out there with our kids hosting a lemonade stand that will raise funds to support our 100 Lunches ProjectTheir efforts will help us get the needed supplies. If you live in one of the communities doing a garage sale, it would be great to see your kids doing the same thing! Share photos of your kiddos working on their 100 Lunches Project Lemonade Stands on our Facebook Page!
Also, please keep an eye out for any backpacks, duffels or suitcases. We are collecting these for foster children, Feeding Empty Little Tummies, and other organizations that need them. If you buy any or are selling these items during the sale and end up with some afterwards, consider donating those instead! We’ve got drop-off locations at Ed’s Tavern and CoWork on Main Street.

We started the month with a bang!

This month marked our first month out in the field. It was so wonderful to see so many of you out supporting these great causes and participating in our events. We can’t wait to see you again!

SUGAR Shout-Out

Monika, one of our volunteers made our Foster Care backpack drive surpass all our hopes with the efforts she took in her neighborhood. She put the word out to her neighborhood and they heard her! She collected so many backpacks that we needed two cars to pick them up from her! Thank you so much for showing such unconditional goodwill and respect!! We appreciate you!

The Beginning is Shaping Up!

It’s thrilling to see our plans begin to take shape. One of our members has been tirelessly working at making contacts and her work is starting to develop a great calendar for us. We’ve been mapping out October, November and December these last few weeks and are really looking forward to the opportunities we will be sharing with you soon!
